The 23rd Annual Mariachi Festival will be held at the 40-year-old landmark, Mariachi Plaza, in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. It is regarded as El Garibaldi de Los Angeles. Local mariachi groups will perform during the day-long program. The festival provides partnership opportunities with media, national and local corporations, civic, community and business leaders. This successful annual event that draws up to 15,000 people and extensive media coverage is presented through an ongoing collaboration with Mothers of East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights Chamber of Commerce, Barrio Planners Incorporated and others. The newly formed Mariachi Plaza Festival Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation built from long supporters and planning committee members will coordinate the planning of this year’s event. The event is partially funded by a grant from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, and others, with the assistance of City Council District 14. The festival will be held at the Mariachi Plaza Metro station adjacent to the spectacular kiosko presented to the City of Los Angeles by the State of Jalisco,Mexico in 1998.
